This is a generic Katawa Shoujo thread for voting and telling (with words) which character is the most adorable in the visual novel.

Characters above (in same order): Emi, Hanako, Lilly, Rin, Shizune, Misha

___

If you have no idea what this is, and play the game before voting. Voting any character purely based on images above is shallow (making me wonder why I even put those images there, WAHAHA~!).

Changing vote is allowed, so you can give a temporary vote before completing all the routes.

Great group. I started this visual novel about a month ago and just haven't had the time to get back in to reading it. It looked really good, especially since it was anonymously made.

Yeah, the visual novel is kinda long. Up to 10 hours per route if you tend to chew on and lament things. A couple of hours easily skippable from ACT 1 as that's shared among all routes (minus minor flag-setting choices and short scenes that follow them.

So far I've done Emi, Shizune and Rin. Pun intended.

____

My Misha-vote is only temporary, btw. I don't even know if it's accurate even at this point. Emi was just a bit too genki. Shizune was just a bit too much ...a bitch. In a non-hooker kind of way. About Rin... mixed feelings. I voted before Rin's route but even though I left the poll open to changing the vote, I feel like I'd have to change my vote several time even if I did update it to Rin. So I'll consider re-voting after I've finished all routes. The only thing I'm sure is that I dislike Shizune.

Misha commentary (Shizune route spoilers):
Although Misha is pure awesome with her drills that will pierce through the heavens...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=OOGRf68Mj7E#t=36s

...I still consider short-haired Misha unbelievably cute, especially when you get to do her even though you can't do her route as she doesn't have one of her own.

Humping Shizune's best friend while dating Shizune isn't exactly the most tact thing to do... but that was just me covering all the sub-routes after I first played it though seriously (without two-timing). So far I've managed to get a Good End on first try for all routes.

Misha looks healthy as well. Not just that she lacks any apparent disability (a thing why a was uncertain of whether to include her in the poll) but especially compared to Shizune, not the anorexic type either. She might have OCD and ADHD but considering Yamaku is a school for physically disabled, and not an asylum for mental patients, her hyperactivity, inability to control her volume of speech, etc., obviously has nothing to do with her being in the school.

A word of God (i.e official developer announcement) did say:
Code:
<l_crud> Misha's disability is that she broke a nail in 3rd grade

Too bad Misha dies in Act 3.

Thankies. Felt like creating it despite the discussion being more active on Katawa Shoujo forums (ks.renai.us)... which is why I also added links to similarly themed anime. I was actually surprised to see theres no club even vaguely to that topic... but I shouldn't have been... surprised, that is. AniDB may have four different pedo groups (with a combined member count of over thousand) but it seems that I end up creating niché group after another not finding any to exist.

Hmm.... that ended up sounding a bit melancholic. No. Not "a bit". Probably Rin's influence since I just finished her route. And Rin's route is quite straining. Especially since I've dated a girl quite like her... except she had arms. But Rin's route really hasn't much to do with lack of arms even though Rin's (external) disability is the clearly most visible one.

I feel kinda stupid for taking about ten seconds before I got your pun...

Anyway, I've completed Hanako's and Lilly's routes as of yet in that order, and am currently on act two in Shizune's. I have to say, I am very glad I started with Hanako's, as Lilly's route (in my opinion) is similar to Hanako's but... better in every way. Not to say that I wasn't entranced by Hanako's as well.

Shizune's route, though, is for the moment kind of boring. I think the writer's knowledge in language plays a part in it. As English is my second language, I had to look up words I didn't know every ten minutes or so in Lilly's path, but in Shizune's I never have to.

I voted for Lilly if you didn't get it.

I don't think it has much to do with the story writer's language skills (AFAIK, there was several storywriters on this project, and which one was the leading writer varied between routes). It's the characters and situations themselves. Shizune's route is quite a bit about setting the mood and researching motivations behind Shizune's actions. Which is kinda boring considering the mood is mostly about student council activities, fooling around, cake. And because Shizune's actions don't really need such in-depth review. It's not like Shizune is totally fucked up inside, like some other character(s?).

Shizune route SPOILER:
Because of simplicity, there isn't too many decision points either... not that visual novels are actually games, but nearly complete lack of decision point does give a certainty that things are going on the right track, making it boring. Not that Shizune's route has much angst in until near the end. And considering choice between "Yeah, I want to fuck Misha" and "Might not actually be the best thing to do", there really isn't much need to think whether the choice was correct afterwards.

But I do like that the game doesn't end immediately, or even soon after, the major fuck-up. The game turns the knife in the wound sloooowly. Finishing it in the ultimate blow with Shizune sulking at the school gate blaming herself of all the misery caused, with the cat doll Hisao gave her peeking from her bag.

While the route is way too long (lasting until graduation - not just until summer leave or a couple of months since game start), considering Shizune not being that complex a person, the excessive dragging of the story might only be there to develop Misha. Misha is hard to develops because of WAHAHA~ breaker. The cutscene gives a hint but with the harem setting, it's way too easily misunderstood - and obviously that's the very idea of it. There's some other hints, like refusal to continue teaching Hisao to sign, cutting hair (metaphor for change and character development) (not the first time she changed her hair as she used to be a brunette with straight hair). Bits and pieces sprinkled.

But Shizune herself: boring.

Hey do any of you guys know how to move Katawa Shoujo from one computer to another and have it still save your place from previous computer? See, I have Katawa Shoujo on my laptop and am probably 30% finished with it, and I rarely use my laptop now. I tried copying the files and folders containing Katawa Shoujo to my desktop so I could play the game on my big screen--the program worked just fine, but it started me at the beginning. If one of you could help me with this predicament (if possible) then it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
JavaNick

Lilly Satou for me. Despite being a little cliche like the rest of the cast in certain aspects, I really like her calm and mindful personality and looks. Not to mention, her story or character development and conflict in route got me emotionally invested the most.

Here's 23 things she wouldn't be likely to say.

Lilly's character is good and balanced, maybe even too flawless. Her route is good up until the point of
it becomes known that she'll return to Scotland again, and this time permanently. Hisao just doesn't man up and even try to convince her... untill it's so late that he'll dramatically run after her, having a second heart attack at the airport. Ridiculous. Unbelievably cheesy. Too much attempt to create a climax to every route.

___

Shizune's route on the other hand was pretty much shit until
- Comfort Misha
- Kick her, WAHAHAha~!
Not only is Shizune unlikable brat, 3/4 of her route is just boring.
All they do is play games, eat cake and build and dismantle festival stands. And then the Jigoro episode, a week at Shizune's house. Jigoro is OK but the whole episode still feels like an overlong comic relief. Like your average "meet Kenji" but 10 times longer. Plus fishing with Akira. Very useless but it does give a few laughs in hindsight when playing Lilly's route afterwards.

But still, before "comfort/no_comfort" decision, there's no drama and no development. Story is dragging and any attempt to excuse Shizune being a nagging witch by bringing out "oh, she's become like her father" is just dragging and beating a dead horse. They could just have used two, maybe three, boxes of dialogue text explaining that Shizune is a bitch because she was raised as such. Cut it short and clip half of the route's length away.

____

Emi is a bit too happy-go-lucky, to the point of hyperactivity and being shallow and random.

Rin is deeper than Marianas Trench but since you can't dive that deep most of it end up as mystery even in the very end. But like Lilly's and Hanako's routes, it had the FEELS.

Hanako... Hanako is moe. MOE!
Note: moe = burning.

WAHAHAHA~!
